First blog post!

Hello, everyone! Welcome to my blog! Since this is my very first post, I'll use it to tell you a little about myself and the kinds of things I'll be posting in the future.

First of all, my name is Martha, and I'm a proud Texas girl studying English and Classical Languages. I have a wonderful family, love my cats, studying languages, reading, baking, learning, traveling, and exploring!

Me with a basket of mini cornbread muffins!
I've been thinking about creating a blog for a while now, and now seemed like the right time to get started for a number of reasons. In the time I've spent in college I've really developed my kitchen skills, and I've learned so many tricks and techniques that I'd like to share with other people who share my interest in cooking and baking. Secondly, like many people, I'm on an ongoing quest to live happier and healthier. From training for my first 5k to trying the whole "no-poo" hair washing technique (Yes, it sounds strange! There will definitely be a post about this later.), I'm constantly researching and trying new things, trying to improve myself and become a better person. By posting my progress on this blog, my readers can keep me accountable and hopefully benefit from the things I have learned. Another reason for starting this blog is to document travels. I'll be spending next Fall semester studying abroad in London, England, so I will use this blog to document my European explorations and experiences. Finally, there are the everyday adventures- learning a cool story about history, starting a new crochet project, or watching a great television episode on Netflix- that I'd like to share with you all. Life is wonderful, and so many times I lose focus on the beauty that exists in the everyday-ness. In a few years I hope to look back on this blog and remember how the littlest of things are perhaps the most important.

So, let's get started! I'll try to post something new at least once a week. Last Friday my friend and baking-buddy Melody and I made Prinsesstårta which turned out wonderfully! This beautiful cake appears to be very difficult, but it's actually pretty simple. For my second post (which I will write sometime this week), I will share a great recipe and my tips for successfully making a Princess Cake. Until then, valete!

Cows are my favorite animals. Here's a picture of a super cute one to brighten your day.
